Huawei P30 Pro beats Pixel 3 in some low-light photos

Huawei’s cameras have become exceptional over the past few years, and earlier this month, the company unveiled more phones with excellent camera performance. While the P30 and P30 Pro have already turned heads with its 5x optical zoom, its low-light performance appears to beat the Pixel’s Night Sight in certain cases.
Both phones were only announced a few days ago, so in-depth reviews aren’t available yet. However, sample shots have been making their way to social media and YouTube, and some are seriously impressive. dbrand’s new Swarm material is its most textured, tactile, and dynamic yet – get it at 20% off right now [Sponsored Post]

Electronics skins from dbrand. Why do you need one on your phone, laptop, console, or other devices? Well, they add grip, and a layer of protection against wear and tear, dings and scratches. Let’s be honest though, you could accomplish that with some duct tape and a exact-o-knife if you wanted to get crafty. The things that set dbrand’s skins apart are that they are perfectly cut to fit your device and –most importantly– they look freaking awesome.
Fresh off the press (or whatever machine they use to make skins) is dbrand’s latest sick look– Swarm. Read Moredbrand’s new Swarm material is…

Pixel 3’s ‘fatal error’ third-party app camera bug may be fixed in December update

Last month we reported that the Pixel 3 and 3 XL had an intermittent problem with third-party apps when using the camera. Those that ran into the issue would get a “fatal error” or similar warning as the camera failed to work in the app, a problem that would then persist in those apps even across reboots. Although not everyone was affected, we’ve seen reports that the issue has been resolved for many with the recent December patches. [Update: Starting to arrive] Google Pixels will be able to save Call Screen transcripts later this year

Update 1: 2018/11/30 3:21pm PST Google has begun rolling out the Call Screen transcript feature, though so far it appears to be far from widespread. To see if it’s gone live for your phone,
Call Screen was arguably the most impressive feature Google debuted at the Pixel 3 launch event. Google’s AI can answer the phone and ask what the purpose of the call is, providing an on-screen transcript of the conversation so you can decide if you want to talk to them or not. Another Pixel 3 bug: Camera encountering ‘fatal error’ in third-party apps

Update 1: 2018/11/19 9:13pm PST
The issue may go even further back than the Pixel 3 and 2 phones, based on other reports. Our coverage has been updated to include this information.

Google’s latest flagship may have a class-leading camera, but it isn’t without its bugs, and now we have another to add to the list. Unfortunately for some, using the camera in third-party apps may trigger an error which disables the camera entirely until you reboot. November Pixel 3 and 3 XL update correctly identifies slow wireless charging

We were a bit perplexed a few weeks ago when Google announced its $79 wireless charger. After all, there are other 10W wireless chargers out there for much lower prices. Then, we found out only Google’s official Pixel Stand can charge the Pixel 3 and 3 XL at full speed. Oddly, other wireless chargers still displayed as “Charging Rapidly” on the phones. Google appears to have fixed that in the November OTA. Read MoreNovember Pixel 3 and 3 XL update correctly identifies slow wireless charging was written by the awesome team at Android Police. …

[Update: AR ‘fix’ of sorts, statement from Google] Déjà vu: Pixel 3 and 3 XL video recordings have poor audio

Update 1: 2018/10/19 1:16pm PDT
A spokesperson from Google responded to our inquiry for comment with the following statement:
We made several advances in the audio recording capabilities of Pixel 3, including enabling stereo recording in Update 2: 2018/10/24 3:17pm PDT
While Google acknowledged earlier that it would consider tweaking the Pixel 3’s microphone audio profile based on feedback, so far there hasn’t been any official change. But that said,
Google’s Pixels are known for their software quality, but they’re also known for launching with random issues, like last year’s Pixel 2 audio…

JerryRigEverything’s Pixel 3 XL test reveals back glass durability

The Pixel 3 XL is landing on doorsteps as we speak, but how careful do you need to be with your shiny new smartphone? YouTube channel JerryRigEverything is here to absolutely wreck another phone in order to assess its durability. The Pixel comes out of it alright—it won’t bend, but you might pick up some scratches.

The bend test is usually the main event in JerryRigEverything videos, but not here. The Pixel 3 XL is a glass sandwich with aluminum sides, so it doesn’t even flex very might; no concerns there. Read MoreJerryRigEverything’s Pixel 3 XL test reveals back glass durability was written by the…

Leak reveals Pixel 3’s Google Camera will support real-time Lens analysis

Real-time detection in the Google Lens app began rolling out in May 2018, but it’s still not possible to use the tool in real-time just by opening up the basic Google Camera app. That won’t be the case for long, though, according to a new leak that shows Lens running by default in the Pixel 3’s camera. In a video published (then quickly unpublished) by a tipster, the standard Google Camera clocks an email address on a business card, then a pop-up suggests copying that address over to Gmail. Google will likely announce the Pixel 3 on Oct. 9

It’s time to get hyped!
Google just sent out press invites for a “Made by Google” launch event in New York City on Oct. 9, where the company will most likely announce the Pixel 3.
As for hints on the invite, there’s not much that could tell us what to expect from the event.

The invite shows a Google logo and then an “I <3 NY”. The “3” in the “<3” (that’s a heart in case you didn’t know) likely refers to to the Pixel 3.
